Motorists are expected to face disruption as sections of the A1 will be subject to overnight closures next week.
Bear Scotland, the operating company of Transport Scotland, is carrying out ‘coring work’ at Gladsmuir and Abbotsview Junctions.
The work will affect the roadway and the southbound ramp (eastbound) which will be closed on Wednesday June 22 and Thursday June 23 between 7:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
On Wednesday Gladsmuir Junction will be affected by a detour signed in place.
Traffic attempting to join the A1 southbound (eastbound) at Gladsmuir will be diverted to the Oaktree slip road via the A199, adding approximately one minute to journeys.
On Thursday, the Abootsview Junction will be affected by a detour signed in place.
Motorists will be diverted from the A1 at Abbotsview southbound on the off ramp, to join Abbotsview southbound on the ramp.
This diversion will add approximately 0.1 mile to the affected trips and should not cause any delays.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s Network Manager for the South East, said: “This coring work is necessary to allow us to plan future road resurfacing work.
“We have planned the work at night to minimize disruption. Given the short diversions, we do not expect any major traffic delays.
