Minister Justice Abubakar Malami said the process of removing Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022 is still ongoing.

“My clear answer to that is that there really is a court judgment. By the judgment, the court directed the Attorney General’s Office to take the necessary steps to remove the provision, which essentially implies that the provision should not be part of our laws.

“Whether it has been removed or not, it is indeed a function of government agencies and associated relevant parastatals. But his real position in this regard is that the government printers, and indeed the Law Reform Commission, among others, who are responsible for the codification and publication of our laws, naturally work, hand in hand with the prosecutor’s office. general in order to ensure that what enters our laws is indeed in in accordance with the provisions of the law.

“So what I’m saying in essence is indeed a work in progress in the context of the fact that the Law Reform Commission is statutorily involved, which is a parastatal agency under the Office of the Attorney General, is party to the condition process.

“Government printers, who are responsible for publishing our laws at the request of the attorney general’s office, are also involved. And above all, as you rightly said, the possibility of an appeal also exists. So what I say in effect is the deletion of Section 84 Subsection 12 is a work in progress and is considered as such.
