Cheshire: A section of the M56 will be totally closed this weekend

DRIVERS are reminded that a section of the M56 west of Manchester Airport will be totally closed this weekend as work continues on an £85million motorway upgrade .

National Highways is working through the weekend to install two 60-ton “superspan” gantries and other equipment along the highway as part of the upgrade from Junction 6 to Junction 8.

To allow work to be carried out safely, the motorway will be closed in both directions from 9 p.m. on Friday March 25 to 5:30 a.m. on Monday March 28.

The eastbound M56 will be closed between Junction 9 at Lymm Interchange and Junction 5 for Manchester Airport; the westbound carriageway will be closed from Junction 5 to Junction 8 at Bowdon.

Clearly signposted diversions will be in place using good alternative motorway routes via the M60, M62 and M6 for westbound traffic and the M6, M62 and M60 for eastbound drivers.

Access to Manchester Airport will be available at all times from Junction 5 via the westbound M56 – eastbound drivers from Cheshire, North Wales and the Midlands should use the detour route motorway from Junction 9 of the M56 via the M6 ​​northbound, M62 eastbound and anti-clockwise M60 to access the M56 westbound for the airport.
